FAQ
The timing of your semester abroad depends on your study program and your individual study plan. All credits earned abroad will be credited to your designated semester. This allows you to successfully complete your Bachelor studies within the standard period of study as planned.
4th semester:

- You are a registered student in one of the study programs listed above.
- Your grade point average at Hochschule Fresenius is at least 3.0 and you have earned at least 60 credits (ECTS) by the time of application. If you have earned less than 60 ECTS but at least 50 ECTS, the study place at UTS cannot be guaranteed. In this case, you must additionally submit a complete translation of your Abitur certificate (minimum GPA: 2.7). We will check your case with UTS individually.
- You must demonstrate English proficiency at B2 level or higher by passing the Hochschule Fresenius Online English Test. You are exempt from this test if you already hold a valid B2+ English certificate (e.g. Cambridge, IELTS, TOEFL) issued within the last two years, or are currently enrolled in a study program taught entirely in English. In all cases, please upload proof of your English proficiency when completing the online application form.
For your semester in Australia, you will need the Student Visa (Subclass 500). This visa allows you to stay in Australia for up to one month after the end of your semester and to work part-time during your studies.
The International Office will inform you as soon as you are eligible to apply and guide you through the process with clear, step-by-step instructions. Please make sure early on that your passport is valid for the entire stay and that you have access to a credit card for the visa application.
You are responsible for booking your own flight. Once you have received confirmation from UTS, the International Office will inform you of the recommended arrival time.
In Sydney, you can apply for a room at the on-campus student residence of UTS Housing. Please note that the minimum rental period is six months and, due to high demand, accommodation cannot be guaranteed.
To support you in finding suitable housing for your semester abroad, the International Office will also provide helpful information on recommended neighborhoods and alternative accommodation options.
While studying abroad, you’ll continue paying your regular Hochschule Fresenius tuition. A one-time fee covers your semester abroad, including UTS tuition. Extra costs will include the visa, flights, accommodation, insurance, and daily living expenses. The International Office is happy to give you a rough idea of what to expect. You can also check out funding options, like “Auslands-BAföG” or the Hochschule Fresenius Merit Scholarship (“Leistungsstipendium”), to support your stay here.
