FAQ

The timing of your semester abroad depends on your study program and your individual study plan. All credits earned abroad will be credited to your designated semester. This allows you to successfully complete your Bachelor studies within the standard period of study as planned.

4th semester:

  • Business Psychology, B.Sc. (Wirtschaftspsychologie)

5th semester:

  • International Business, B.A. (HSF Heidelberg)

4th and/or 5th semester:

  • Business Administration, B.A., CFPU (Betriebswirtschaftslehre CFPU)
  • Business Psychology, B.Sc., CFPU (Wirtschaftspsychologie CFPU)

6th semester:

  • All part-time students
  • You are a registered student in one of the undergraduate study programs listed above.
  • Your grade point average at Hochschule Fresenius is at least 3.6. If you do not meet the requirement, please get in touch with us and we check your case individually.
  • You must demonstrate English proficiency at B2 level or higher by passing the Hochschule Fresenius Online English Test. You are exempt from this test if you already hold a valid B2+ English certificate (e.g. Cambridge, IELTS, TOEFL) issued within the last two years, or are currently enrolled in a study program taught entirely in English. In all cases, please upload proof of your English proficiency when completing the online application form.

For your semester abroad at Shanghai University, you will need a single-entry student visa (X2 category).

The visa application process is supported by the HS Fresenius International Office in cooperation with Shanghai University. You will receive detailed guidance and step-by-step instructions to ensure a smooth application process.

Please ensure that your passport is valid well in advance of your departure and remains valid for the entire duration of your semester abroad.

You are responsible for booking your own flight. Once you have received confirmation from Shanghai University, the International Office will inform you of the recommended arrival time.

Please note that student housing is not available at Shanghai University. Participants are therefore responsible for arranging their own accommodation in Shanghai. The International Office will provide helpful information materials and opportunities to connect with current and former program participants to support your housing search.

While studying abroad, you’ll continue paying your regular Hochschule Fresenius tuition. A one-time fee covers your semester abroad, including Shanghai University tuition. Extra costs will include the visa, flights, accommodation, insurance, and daily living expenses. The International Office is happy to give you a rough idea of what to expect. You can also check out funding options, like “Auslands-BAföG” or the Hochschule Fresenius Merit Scholarship (“Leistungsstipendium”), to support your stay here.

Please note: A semester abroad is a required part of the B.A. programs in Tourism, Hotel and Event Management and International Business Management. Depending on your chosen destination, additional study abroad fees may apply. The International Office can provide detailed guidance and current fee information.
