In the context of freedom of movement within the European Union, students holding an EU passport do not require a separate permit to study in Spain. Non-EU passport holders can benefit from the EU Directive on Research and Studies (REST), which simplifies administrative requirements for semesters abroad within the EU. After admission to the program, the International Office will provide guidance on the necessary steps. Please ensure that your passport and residence documents are valid for the entire duration of your stay in Barcelona.

You are responsible for booking your own flight. Once you have received confirmation from UAB, the International Office will inform you of the recommended arrival time.

In Barcelona, accommodation in student residences is not available, so participants must arrange their own housing. Information materials and opportunities to connect with fellow and former program participants will be provided to support the housing search.

While studying abroad, you’ll continue paying your regular Hochschule Fresenius tuition. A one-time fee covers your semester abroad, including UAB tuition. Extra costs will include flights, accommodation, insurance, and daily living expenses. The International Office is happy to give you a rough idea of what to expect. You can also check out funding options, like “Auslands-BAföG” or the Hochschule Fresenius Merit Scholarship (“Leistungsstipendium”), to support your stay here.
