Funding for programs abroad

The performance-based scholarship for the Study Abroad Program is aimed at committed and high-achieving students in the faculties of Economics & Media and Design (AMD).

A limited number of scholarships are awarded each semester and offer financial support that can be used at the recipient’s discretion to make it easier to gain international experience. Applications can be conveniently submitted via an online form. Acceptances and rejections will be announced by the scholarship committee one to two weeks after the deadline.

During their semester abroad, scholarship recipients take on the role of Study Abroad Ambassadors for Fresenius University of Applied Sciences. Even after their return, they continue to support the International Office with projects and activities. The specific tasks are determined individually after the scholarship is awarded and documented in a scholarship agreement.

The application deadlines are:

• April 1 for study abroad stay in the winter semester
• October 1 for study abroad stay in the summer semester

For Students from Germany

German students may be eligible to receive Auslands-BAföG (German government financial aid for study abroad) during their semester abroad. In many cases, students who do not qualify for BAföG in Germany may still be eligible for Auslands-BAföG.

The funding may include:

• a contribution toward tuition fees,
• monthly living expenses,
• travel expenses, and
• health insurance subsidies (where applicable).

The amount of financial aid depends on the destination country and the student’s individual financial circumstances, including parental income.

For Students from Austria

Austrian students may be eligible to receive “Studienbeihilfe während eines Auslandsstudiums” (government study allowance for study abroad).

• Minimum stay of three months
• Partial scholarship or travel allowance (a selection committee decides on the type and duration of funding)
• Preference will be given to individual mobility
• The study visit must take place outside Europe or at a European university that is not an Erasmus partner university
• Unfortunately, tuition fees cannot be covered

• Minimum stay of two months
• Partial scholarship or travel allowance (a selection committee decides on the type and duration of funding)
• The internship stay must take place outside Europe (all EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey are excluded from funding)
• Exceptionally, internships can also be funded in the period between the Bachelor’s degree and the start of the Master’s program; the prerequisite here is that admission to the Master’s program has been granted.

• Minimum stay of three months
• Partial scholarship or travel allowance (a selection committee decides on the type and duration of funding)
• The stay for writing the thesis must take place outside Europe or at a European university that is not an Erasmus partner university.

• Group travel with a number of participants of 5 to 15 students and a duration of 5 to 12 days (must be accompanied by a university teacher).
• Trips with a predominantly touristic program as well as lecture and congress trips are not supported.
